Foburg Fest Hits Frenchman This Weekend

Now that most of your post-Mardi Gras exhaustion has (somewhat) lifted, there’s a music festival (now in its second year) waiting for you this weekend down on Frenchman Street. It features many of the up-and-comers swinging through the Big Easy en route to try to get their names out there at this year’s South-By-Southwest Music Conference in Austin.

The Foburg Fest begins Friday at various venues in the Faubourg Marigny. I highly recommend checking out Futurebirds, Moon Taxi, Toro Y Moi, Das Racist (out of sheer curiosity), T Bird and the Breaks, and of course local acts like Big Freedia, R. Scully’s Rough 7, and The Revivalists. The lineup this year is impressive, and I expect this mini-SXSW event to experience precipitous growth with each passing year. The timing the week after Mardi Gras this year is a little rough, but the fest offers a rare chance to see many of these indie bands in small venues before many of them likely hit it big.

Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door for the ENTIRE WEEKEND. Great deal, especially if you consider this a chance to check out many of the featured artists playing at SXSW without having to make the drive to ATX. For more information, visit the festival’s website here.
