LGBT Health Awareness Week

By Maggie Migliozzi, for NolaVie

This week is LGBT Health Awareness Week in New Orleans, and even though it has already started there are still many ways to get involved. All week, events are being sponsored by The LGBT Center, The Community Coalition, The Louisiana Wellness Center Project, and The New Orleans Gay Men’s Wellness Center. All of the events are free and open to the public.

Today, Wednesday, March 30 at 5:30 p.m., a seminar on “Sex and Food” will be held by nutritionist Ginger Bouvier at the LGBT Community Center on Decatur. The seminar will discuss the effects food can have on a couple’s sex life, while also addressing safety issues with the use of food products in the bedroom. Ginger Bouvier currently works at the Primary Medical Care Clinic at NO/AIDS Task Force and will be available for networking a half hour before the seminar begins. This event is being presented by The Community Coalition.

On Thursday, March 31 at 5:30pm, yoga teacher Lauren Ditto will be teaching an “Intro to Yoga” class at Above Fair Grinds Coffeehouse on 3133 Ponce De Leon. Ditto specializes in Integral Yoga. Though this event is part of LGBT Health Awareness Week, the event is welcome to anyone curious about yoga.

The week’s events will culminate in a special picnic and dodgeball day on Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m. in Audubon Park. There will be separate dodgeball games for children and adults under the oaks near the bandstand. All our welcome.
