30 Under 30: Summer barbecue in the Bywater

By Megan Peck

Summer just isn’t the same without a healthy dose of barbeque, so I recently ventured out to the Bywater for my first dining experience at The Joint.

Like many of my other picks, I chose the spot for its word-of-mouth buzz. I entered the small, funky locale, located at 801 Poland Avenue, with high expectations — among my friends, The Joint is hailed as having the best barbecue in the city. It also won a Times-Picayune Reader’s Choice Award as favorite place to get barbecue.

It delivered on both taste and price; I enjoyed a delicious pulled-pork sandwich and side of mac ‘n cheese, washed down by a cold Abita Amber, for just under $11 – an impressive bargain.

Check out The Joint’s compete list of slow-cooked menu items and other fixins (including a Cajun chaurice sausage sandwich) here.

Featuring a brightly colored exterior and casual yet friendly interior atmosphere, this aptly named establishment is a reflection of the Bywater’s reputation for funky and laid back spots. Open from 11:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, The Joint is sure to satisfy all of your barbecue needs.
