Dalt Wonk has lived for more than 30 years in the French Quarter. His French Quarter Fables were inspired largely by the creatures, human and otherwise, that thrive in this fanciful habitat. These fables in verse, illustrated by their creator, are written for adults and, of course, have morals — which is simply another term for aphorisms that grow out of the tales, like flowers blooming on the stem of a plant.
France (which founded New Orleans) boasts the fables of La Fontaine — based on the Louis XIV’s monarchy — with the king or lion at the apex. The French Quarter Fables are humorous anecdotes, in which recognizable modern dilemmas take place in today’s flexible society.
A new fable is published every Saturday at NolaVie. Enjoy!
