Explosions in the Sky will be blowing the gaskets out of Tipitina’s on Wednesday night.
This is one of the shows of the year if you are into experimental, dramatic rock music. And it promises to be one of the most dramatic and bitingly intense performances to ever unfold inside the former juice shop/brothel/gym.
A lot of bands could learn something by watching these guys; their ability to patiently build a crescendo into a rousing, larger-than-life musical exposition is just about unparalleled. My brief glimpse of their set at Bonnaroo this year was enough to thoroughly pique my interest in the band as a live force. Luckily, the band is touring in support of its first album in four years (aptly titled Take Care, Take Care, Take Care) and stopping in New Orleans this week.
The WTUL-presented show is at 9 p.m.; Wye Oak will be opening and tickets are available here for $19 advance; they will run $21 if available at the door.
