Cinema Reset takes filmmaking to Julia Street for Art for Arts Sake

CInema Reset opens Saturday at the CAC. An accompanying cinematic installation piece on Julia Street will be a highlight of Art for Arts Sake.

As part of the Saturday, October 6 Arts for Arts’ Sake, CINEMA RESET will bring cinema to the 400 block of Julia Street with a larger-than-life cinematic installation titled “Have One on Me,” directed by Blake Bertuccelli with video artist Nina Schwanse.

The installation kicks off Cinema Reset, an exhibition of experimental film and new media works presented by curators Blake Bertuccelli and Trevor Alan Taylor with the New Orleans Film Festival, on display at the Contemporary Arts Center through December 2.

Nina Schwanse plans to approach her work by “leisurely navigating the infrastructural detritus.” She writes, “I [will] come upon a strange scene. Deliciously familiar, yet methodically ravaged by the daily grind; [asking viewers to] please have one on me.”

Throughout Arts for Arts’ Sake, live video will be streamed from Julia Street into the Contemporary Arts Center and online at cinemareset.com.

At cinemareset.com, viewers will also have a chance to submit their own cinema, some of which will be put on display during the New Orleans Film Festival and will be included in “The Cinema Stream,” an in-gallery and online broadcast of video content, that will be streamed on cinemareset.com and featured at NolaVie.

One selected submission will also receive the Cinema Reset Cinema Award, which includes a $2,000 gift certificate toward camera rentals at Division Camera. Submissions will be accepted from October 6-12 at cinemareset.com. There is no charge to enter. The competition invites any original creations, long or short, to show what cinema is, was, could be, or could have been — Cinema Reset wants to see it all!
