A lot’s happening on Main Street these days. Which street is that you ask? Canal? Bourbon? Magazine? Nope. We’re talking about St. Claude, a street that many may not consider worthy of that title. But that’s all changing with the work of St. Claude Main Street, a nonprofit organization that supports the booming arts and cultural community within various New Orleans neighborhoods, including St. Roch, Bunny Friend, Bywater, and the Faubourg Marigny. Yet their work focuses specifically on the cultural and economic development of this new “Main Street” – St. Claude Avenue from Elysian Fields to Poland Avenue. And this weekend, you can get a feel for what all of that will look like. The maps below designed by St. Claude artist Hannah Chalew give you a little preview.
The St. Claude Open Studios and Night Market will take place this Saturday November 10, 2012 from 12-6PM and 6-9PM respectively. The events aim to connect the public directly to local artists and vendors within the community, giving them an opportunity to observe and purchase local work.
