The Vie Side: Jane Austin, Zines, Cabaret

SATURDAY-SUNDAY / It is a truth universally acknowledged…: Put on your Pride and Prejudice attire for the 6th annual Jane Austen Fest on the streets of old Mandeville Saturday and Sunday. Period costumes are encouraged and you can have your hair done Regency style onsite. Who knows, maybe you’ll find your Mr. Darcy at the dancing demo.

SATURDAY / Zine Team: Once the best way to get underground info, zines have become less common since the growth of the internet. This Saturday at Press Street’s Antenna Gallery, Sift is hosting a Pop Up Zine Library with contemporary zines from all across the country and local collections. Come see what you’ve been missing in lieu of Tumblr.

SUNDAY / Non, je ne regrette rien: M.I. Scoggins sings French chanteuse Edith Piaf at the Mid-City Theater. Piaf’s biggest hit was “La Vie En Rose,” but the life of the so-called Little Sparrow wasn’t always so hopeful. Longtime local favorite M.I. gets it, and delivers it. This performance is a part of Cabaret Month at Mid-City Theater.
