THURSDAY / Dot your I’s: Start your weekend early at Press Street 220‘s Happy Hour Salon, featuring esteemed writers Nathan Rich, Zachary Lazar, and Rachel Kushner. From 6-9 PM at Press Street Headquarters, LA-based Kushner and New Orleans-based Rich and Lazar will read from their recently and soon-to-be released books. Complimentary cocktails will be provided, with donations strongly encouraged.
FRIDAY / Some cupid kills with arrows, some with traps: New Orleans Museum of Art and the Nola Project are kicking off their summer season this weekend with their production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. This reinterpretation is more Antebellum than Elizabethan with the classic tale being set in the old American South. Soak up the sun (or rain) and some culture with regular performances through the May.
SATURDAY / Bar crawl for all y’all: The end of Jazz Fest getting you down? FestivALES is this weekend with 30 craft beers to cheer you up. The forecast of rain doesn’t seem so ominous when you’re more likely to stumble across your new favorite microbrew than into two feet of mud. $24 gets you 20 tastings at 5 different bars in the CBD. The afternoon closes with live music at Barcadia from 7-8 PM.
SUNDAY / It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to: Close your weekend with a birthday party. Shipwrecked! is celebrating one year of showing New Orleans that story hour isn’t just for kids. Go to the New Movement Sunday night for a show complete with performances, live music from Meschiya Lake and the Little Bighorns, and, of course, birthday cake made by Shake Sugary.
