Southern Fried Swamp Fest at the zoo

swamp_fest_foodThis Saturday and Sunday, Audubon Zoo will host the first annual Southern Fried Swamp Fest in lieu of its annual Louisiana Swamp Fest, which ran in the fall.

At the event you will find, as its name suggests, various offerings of fried foods — from the familiar, like versions of chicken, pork chop, fish and sweet potatoes, to the decidedly different, like fried bananas foster bread pudding, fried seafood grits, fried boudin balls and deep fried crawfish bisque eggroll. (You can find a list of the food and their respective prices on the Audubon Zoo’s event page.)

In addition to the fried cuisine, you can listen to live music, while you explore the swamp exhibits, craft booths, and animal presentations.

Southern Fried Swamp Fest is from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Admission to the festival is free with general zoo admission, and on Sunday, admission is free for all dads. You can purchase your tickets in advance here.
