Thursday / Oh, you artsy? On Thursday, NOMA holds a free book discussion with Sarah Thornton, author of Seven Days in the Art World, a series that explores the dynamics of culture, taste, and finance in the art world. The talk starts at noon. Soft drinks and water will be provided.
Friday / Don’t eat yellow snow: Alright, fine, maybe just this once … Friday night at 8 PM, Northlake Nature Center hosts a “Moonlight Hike and Snow and Ice” event. A guide will lead you through a one-mile night tour of the site. One highlight of the walk will be stopping at the Beaver Pond for observation. The walk will conclude with complimentary snowballs by The Shiver Shack. Free for members of Northlake Nature center and $5 for non-members. Reservations required; reserve by phone at 985-626-1238 or by e-mail at Rue@northlakenature.org. Suitable for all ages. Please bring your own flashlights.
Saturday / Let’s get dirty: Get your mind out of the gutter; it’s “dirty” t-shirts. Saturday, from 2 – 6 PM, Dirty Coast is festing at the Rusty Nail (1100 Constance Street). The event will feature complimentary photo sessions and blank tees. As a part of its desire to incorporate locals into the business, Dirty Coast may feature your picture in the shirt mock ups for the company’s website. There will also be live music by Sweet Crude, as well as Alexis & the Sumurai. La Cocinita food truck and Hansen’s Snow-Bliz will offer refreshments for an additional fee. No cover fee.
Saturday / Get your groove on: …or stomp on; basically, just move. On Saturday, there will be a 12-hour dance-a-thon at Cafe Istanbul (2372 St Claude) — the “Stomp out the Stink Dance-a-Thon,” which will benefit Louisiana Bucket Brigade. If you can’t dance 12 hours alone (I mean, who can?), no worries. You can work in teams of up to 12 persons. There’s a $45 registration fee for each person, so ask friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors (random strangers too, if you’ve got that kind of gumption) to sponsor you. The event will include live music, prizes, games, and free dance lessons (everything from belly dancing to Michael Jackson). If you can’t participate in the dance-a-thon, you can still attend for a $10 cover fee.
