‘Night of the Comet’ launchs Monday

New Orleans novelist George Bishop, Jr. will celebrate the release of his most recent book, Night of the Comet, with two local events: at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, August 5, at the Garden District Book Shop, and at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13, at Octavia Books.

Night of the Comet is the story of a family in Terrebonne, Louisiana, for whom the approach of legendary Comet Kohoutek in 1973 becomes a circumstance through which the deterioration of their dreams and relationships becomes poignant.People Magazine, somewhat cringe-inducingly, said “Bishop does a heavenly job telescoping the heady promise of youth tinged with the sorrow of lost dreams.”

Bishop is a graduate of Loyola University New Orleans and presently calls New Orleans home. Between his graduation and now, however, he’s spent time in Los Angeles as a television actor, in Czechoslovakia, Indonesia, Japan, and Turkey as a teacher, in Azerbaijan as an Open Society fellow, and he has published a previous novel, Letter to My Daughter.
