It’s national root beer float day. Obviously this holiday is the glue that holds America together, so you’re expected to observe. Don’t have all the necessary supplies (i.e. root beer and ice cream) for DIY festivities? Not an excuse. Whether you want to celebrate by swinging by an unassuming diner, ending up on Bourbon (good luck getting yourself to work tomorrow), or enjoying a swanky dinner, we’ve got you covered with root beer.
Ted’s Frostop (3100 Calhoun Street) – It would be unpatriotic to leave out the joint with a giant mug of root beer standing proud outside the entrance. Stop by for a classic, no-frills float. $2.50 – $3.75, depending on the size.
Hansesn’s Sno-Bliz (4801 Tchopitoulas Street) – Order a sno ball with root beer flavoring, and top it off with a scoop of ice cream. $1.50 – $5, depending on the size, $0.50 – $1.50 extra for toppings (including ice cream).
Creole Creamery (4924 Prytania Street) – Rule-benders can customize their floats with a variety of sodas and in-house ice creams. $4.
Bourbon O’ Bar (in the Bourbon Orleans Hotel, 717 Orleans Street) – This root beer float comes with an extra shot of fun: Abita root beer, Creole Cream Cheese ice cream, and New Orleans Crystal Rum.
SoBou – (310 Chartes Street) – Need extra protein? Certainly the heartiest root beer offering on the list: a foie gras burger that’s served with an Abita root beer and foie gras ice cream shake. $24 for both the burger and float.
