Meet: Couture Super Bowl helmets. In partnership with the NFL and Council of Fashion Designers of America, Bloomingdales is auctioning off one-of-a-kind couture football helmets just in time for Super Bowl XLVIII. A red cheetah print from Dian Von Furstenberg, taupe and brown snakeskin from Vince Camuto, and a jeweled rainbow version from Stacey Bendet for Alice and Olivia are among the 48 blinged out (and team-neutral, I should mention) options. The auction runs until February 4th; Bids start at $248 (as of 1/23).
Eat: Bread & Provision’s General Lee pickled mirlitons. It seems like folks are pickling everything these days, but for a good reason — a great pickle can dress up a sandwich or burger in the same way a beautiful leather bag can elevate a simple black dress. The mirliton pickles from Lafayette-based condiment, confection, and cured meat company, Bread & Provisions, are pickled in a solution that includes smoked tasso, tabasco seeds, and pickle 8 spice, which add layers of depth most pickles don’t carry. Available (about $7/jar) online at Good Eggs and in store at Petite Amelie.
Drink: The “supreme leader” at Maurepas Foods. Lose yourself in the veggie juices and pretend you’re doing something good for your body when you sip on the more exotic relative of our friend, Bloody Mary. The cocktail consists of a blend of carrot juice, green, tomato, kim chi, and what every healthy juice needs: gin. The cocktail ($9.25) is featured on the brunch menu, but the restaurant is usually willing to make it in the evening as well.
Primp: With “let the good times roll” facial cleaner. from all natural, handmade bath and skincare company Lush (407 Decatur). The cinnamon scented, cornmeal based formula warms upon application and exfoliates and cleanses without being over-drying or abrasive (even in winter months). The product ($12.95/ jar) is sold out online but available in the store on Decatur.
Laugh: The signs in NOLA never end…
Lesson learned: Leave your cat at home.
