Thursday- Sunday / Shane’s shout out : Hangout Music Festival, Gulf Shores, AL
So you’re sleep schedule is finally back on track after the madness of Jazz Fest and you’re ready to party again. Thankfully one of the biggest music festivals in the country is happening just down I-10 this weekend, with Outkast, The Black Keys, and tons more festival heavy hitters playing on the sandy beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama. Beach + festival = pure bliss.
Friday / Livin’ la vida…: In conjunction with The Historic New Orleans Collection’s newest exhibition and book — Creole World: Photographs of New Orleans and the Latin Caribbean Sphere, which explores the connections between Haiti, Colombia, Argentina, Cuba and Ecuador back home to New Orleans — the HNOC’s monthly outdoor concert will feature music from the likes of Vivaz, a group of musicians from Latin American and the U.S.m formed
in New Orleansm that combines Latin music, jazz elements and Brazilian and Caribbean sounds with roots of Flamenco flair. Admission (at the door) is $10 / free for THNOC members; includes three complimentary beverages. Guests must be 21 and over to attend.
Friday / Sweet thang : John Besh and WWII Museum eateries, America Sector and Stage Door Canteen are offering a pretty sweet party. From 9 PM – midnight, the National WWII Museum will house the 5th Annual Otto Candies, LLC How Sweet It Is benefit — a dessert display, induing a Belgian waffle station, root beer floats, candy displays; house wines and brews; and live music from James Andrews and The Crescent City All Stars. Tickets available onlinre L $35 — all you can eat and drink.
Saturday / Street cred: Have an interest in street art? Make your very own street art pieces at the CAC’s “In the Name of Street Art” workshop, where attendees will learn about styles and techniques of street art and create their
own pieces alongside local artist Brandan Odums. 10 AM – 3 PM at the CAC (900 Camp St.). Tickets available online $10 for members / $12 for non-members. All ages welcome.
Sunday / Pedal to the metal : From 11 AM – 1 PM, Bike Easy is hosting a second line ride that ends at music, art and cultural festival Bayou Boogaloo on its last day (*see Shane’s Shout out for more information on Bayou Bagaloo). The 11 mile ride, which moves at a moderate 7 – 10 mph, rolls from Bayou St. John at Lafitte St and Jefferson Davis to the bayou Bugaloo Music Festival Grounds, all the while being led by Panorama Brass Band. The ride is free and open to the public.
