James Stram works at the local grassroots organization Common Ground, with headquarters down in the Lower 9th Ward. He serves as the Wetlands Coordinator, and is involved in multiple projects surrounding coastal restoration. See here what he’s doing (with volunteers) about the Bayou Bienvenue “Ghost Swamp”.
But here you’ll see Stram in a different light, with a self-inspired project to help restore the coast with his own two hands (and oars). In his own words: “In short, I built a sailboat, sailed around Lake Pontchartrain and planted marsh grasses and cypress trees along the way.”
