Finn McCools: local soccer HQ

Finn McCools: local soccer HQ

Meet: Fellow World Cup soccer fans with global accents at Finn McCool’s, soccer HQ for local diehards. There’s a reason that Buzzfeed named Finn McCool’s the best place in Louisiana to watch the World Cup. Among them: Multiple screens (including outdoor ones), every match aired live and $10 buckets of domestic beer.

Embrace: A different kind of football at Handsome Willy’s, a go-to Saints bar (who dat!) in the fall. For now, the bar will be open for every World Cup match with multiple flat screens and free shots whenever your team scores (wear your team’s jersey to qualify). Oh yeah, there will be $2 tacos and $5 burritos during every match as well.

Drink: Free Bud Lite (while it lasts) at Rendezvous on Monday starting at 3:30 p.m. for anyone wearing USA or American Outlaws gear for the U.S. versus Ghana World Cup match (it’s our team opener; please get pumped). American Outlaws are supporters of the U.S. National team, and members will be on hand.

Eat: Hot BBQ wings ($6) at Irish House during all World Cup games. Also $3 pints and free shots when the USA scores.

Cheer: For the USA against opening opponent Ghana on Monday, starting at 5 p.m., at Rock n Bowl, where members of the New Orleans Jesters soccer team will be on hand to lead the noise.

Hear: The Natural Light All-Stars sing the national anthem before the U.S. vs Ghana game on Monday at the Rusty Nail. Dine curbside at the Foodie Call food truck.

Dish: Controversial calls (did you see that PK penalty in Thursday’s Brazil/Croatia opener?) with an in-house soccer expert at the Upper Quarter.World Cup fans can hang out with resident soccer aficionado Jamie Midgley; all Monday-Wednesday matches after 5 p.m. and all matches on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays will be televised on the club’s large HD TV’s.
Map: Your World Cup wanderings with WWNO’s World Cup Watchers’ NOLA Map, pinning local bars and what teams to watch where.
