Sip a St. John’s Way for St. John’s Eve

Drink: A toast to St. John with the “John’s Way Elixir” created by spirit handler (i.e. mixologist) Alan Walter to celebrate St. John’s Eve. The rejuvenating drink contains aguardiente, genepi, kummel, rum, sweet olive-infused vodka, Spanish moss tea syrup and lavender bitters. Try it out at St. John’s Eve at International House on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Sallie Ann Glassman leads a spiritual ceremony at 6, followed by a toast at 6:15 and a ceremony honoring vodou queen Marie Laveau from 6:30 to 7:30. La Cocinita food truck will be alongside serving victuals. The first 50 guests get white scarves.

Watch: Eleven ballet dancers from across the country twirl in honor of Midsummer’s Eve at the New Orleans Ballet Theater Summer Solstice Performance. Performance highlights include a world premiere male solo choreographed by co-founder Marjorie Schramel, two works by Brazilian contemporary company Grupo Corpo and a world premiere choreographed by co-founder Gregory Schramel. Hear: Drumming by Luther Gray and music by the Honeypots when the Green Project and Gulf Restoration Network both turn 20 with a Summer Solstice Party. Champagne, watermelon, Reyka vodka cocktails and more are free from 6 p.m. to sundown on Saturday at the Peristyle in City Park. It’s free, so you can save your bucks for food trucks and bidding on more than 30 one-of-a-kind rain barrels painted by New Orleans artists.

Eat: Fresh summer produce at Good Eggs when it celebrates the longest day of the year with local food and drinks, live music, contests and fan. The Summer Solstice Celebration from this innovative farm-to-market grocery shopping website takes place at the Good Eggs warehome at 1746 Tchoupitoual St. from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Admission is $5 in advance (reserve here) or $10 at the door, and the price includes one food and one drink ticket, although there also will be tons of samples from local farmers and foodmakers.
