UNO documentary: “The New Americana Movement in New Orleans”

What: In a city known worldwide for its Jazz, New Orleans also boasts roots in country music, which has become evident as the popularity for so-called Americana music, a country sub-genre, grows. “[Americana] is a new coined genre,” explains WTUL Roots Music Director Mark Tobler.”But there’s always been country music here.”

Film by: UNO student and filmmaker Tim Gendron

Editor’s Note: NolaVie partners with students of UNO professor László Zsolt Fülöp, pairing them with artists, non-profits, environmental groups, and cultural entities to facilitate a live curriculum that results in a short documentary. In this short doc, Tim Gendron, a film student in the Department of Film and Theatre at the University of New Orleans, produced a short documentary about the Americana spirit and country music’s roots in the Big Easy.
