New Orleans is so rich with culture that it’s hard to take it all in. Without a plan, you might miss something truly great. As that icon of culture, Yogi Berra, once said,”If you do not know where you are going, you will end up someplace else.”
Don’t let that happen to you. Instead, attend the annual happy hour kick off to the cultural season, known as Culture Collision 6, on Wednesday, August 27, from 5:30-8 PM at the National World War II Museum’s Boeing Center (945 Magazine). This free event brings together more than 60 local nonprofit visual and performing arts organizations. Attendees can check out upcoming events, take advantage of exclusive ticket promotions and meet like minded arts lovers.
Culture Collision, which began in 2008, is a way for organizations (including NolaVie) “to reach diverse audiences, and to share audiences with one another,” says event organizer Janet Wilson.
The event will feature pop-up performances by Caribbean Carnival/Friends of Culture, the Symphony Chorus of New Orleans, the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra and the Creativity Collective. Along with a cash bar and food options, there will be a free drawing for about 50 prizes, such as tickets and tours. Parking is free after 3 PM in the Magazine Street lot between Andrew Higgins Drive and Poeyfarre Street.
Not only is Culture Collision about cultural groups in New Orleans, it is also organized and put on by many of these organizations. This year’s event hosted by WWNO and sponsored by NewOrleansMe, The National World War II Museum and the Canary Collective. It is organized by the Arts Council of New Orleans, DEVENEY, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, the New Orleans Ballet Association, the New Orleans Opera Association, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Southern Rep and WWNO.
For more information, visit Culture Collisions’s official site, where you can see a full list of participating organizations and register for the prize drawing even if you cannot be at the event.
