On Saturday, the Creativity Collective hosts their second annual Bridal-themed pub crawl.

Wednesday / BYO : New Orleans-based pop-up storytelling series Bring Your Own hosts their monthly event, an evening of live entertainment that brings together a slew of creative voices from around the community. The event begins at 7:30 PM, with a happy hour featuring beer, Jeff’s neighborhood BBQ, homemade ice cream and music from local string band Lost in the Holler. The main event begins at 8 PM and will include a series of short, live stories centered around the theme “Worth the Wait.” Bring Your Own will be held at 915 N Dupre; bring chairs and blankets, as the seating will be on the grass.

Thursday / Dictionary drive : One Book, One New Orleans — a Youth Leadership Council campaign that endorses literacy and community by encouraging New Orleans residents to read a specific book selection and attend a series of topically related events each fall — hosts a Dictionary Drive from 5:30 – 7:30 PM at Clouet Gardens (707 Clouet Street).

All guests are strongly encouraged to bring a new or gently used paper dictionary to be donated to Louisiana Books 2 Prisoners. There will be food, drinks, and an exciting lineup of guest speakers, all go whom will focus on a selection from this year’s book, Unfathomable City — the map “Of Levees and Prisons” — as well as the essay “Lockdown Louisiana” by Lydia Pelot-Hobbs.

The event is free, family-friendly and open to the public.

Friday / Concert in the courtyard : As it goes in NOLA, when the weather cools, the entertainment moves outside.

The Historic New Orleans Collection resumes their outdoor, fall concert series, Concerts in the Courtyard, with a performance by four-piece New Orleans band Debbie Davis and the Mesmerizers, led by veteran jazz vocalist and ukulelist Davis, who also sings with the Pfiser Sisters and New Orleans Nightingales. Tickets (at the door), which include three complimentary beverages (beer and wine) are free for HNOC members and $10 for non-members. The show will be at the HNOC (533 Royal Street) from 6 – 8 PM (doors open at 5:30 PM).

Friday / Moonlight movie : Beginning this Friday, the New Orleans Film Society kicks off their Moonlight Movies series. A welcomed relief from the indoor theaters and couches folks have been posted up at throughout the summer, the series consists of monthly outdoor screenings on a 25-foot inflatable screen in the Sydney and Besthoff sculpture garden in City Park. This month’s featured film is 1950 film noir classic Sunset Boulevard.

Admission is $5 for NOFS and NOMA members / $8 for non-members. Attendees are welcome to bring chairs, blankets and snacks for the film.

Saturday / Here come the brides : It’s a commitment-phobe’s worst nightmare. For the second year, the Creativity Collective invited New Orleanians to participate in their Bridal Crawl, a French Quarter pub crawl, flash mob and after party — all of while wearing wedding dresses, of course.

Festivities begin at 2:30 PM at French Quarter restaurant Galvez (914 N. Peters), where attendees can compete in a dress contest and enjoy cake, as well as complimentary hors d’oeuvres from Galvez. Following, the group will proceed to the Quarter in the form of a flash mob and then continue to a series of crawl stops — The Cigar Factory, Coyote Ugly, 55 Farenheit and The Beach on Bourbon — each of which will offer drink and/or food specials, as well as free mechanical bull rides at Bourbon Cowboy. Tickets are $20 in advance / $25 at the door. Registration begins at 2 PM at Galvez; festivities officially end at Bourbon Cowboy at 11 PM (assuming you make it that long).

Saturday / Shane‘s shout out : Dr. John & the Nite Trippers at the Joy Theater (1200 Canal), Tickets $42.50 – $100

Dr. John brings his Nite Trippers band to The Joy Theatre this weekend for a show celebrating his new record “Ske-Dat-De-Dat…Spirit of Satch.” The album of Louis Armstrong tunes features some of the best players in town, including James Andrews, Terence Blanchard and Derwin “Big D” Perkins, who will also be on hand for the show. Here’s hoping we get a few classic hoodoo songs thrown in since the band is named after the good doctor’s psycedelic alter ego.
