The last time electronic singer/songwriter Zola Jesus played New Orleans was just under three years ago at One Eyed Jacks. This time around, Zola Jesus, whose real name is Nika Roza Danilova, brought her haunting and experimental melodies to The Republic.
Though Zola Jesus boasts a prolific discography, her Sunday night set list was largely concentrated upon her three most recent releases, primarily 2014 album Taiga. At times seemed in her own world, letting the music surround her and completely take her over, producing an overall organic and seemingly effortless performance. The well-crafted set, consisting of moody lighting and unconventional sculptures, topped off Zola’s confident show. View an extended gallery here.
