With eight albums and five extended plays under its belt, Montreal-based band Stars has managed to amass a tremendous volume of material in the fifteen years the group has been together.
On Tuesday night, the five musicians that make up the ensemble — Torquil Campbell, Christopher Seligman, Evan Cranley, Patrick McGee and Amy Millan — performed at the Republic. The set consisted of the band’s retrospective catalog, focusing primarily on Stars’ 2014 release, “No One is Lost.” The bleak, yet peppy title track’s lyrics — “Put your hands up ’cause everybody dies” — served as the main set ender and encouraged crowd participation. The band’s live set sounded rougher than the music on their polished albums; however, this slight roughness accounts for the dirty beauty of a Stars performance. View an extended gallery here.
