Looking back on 2016, from the perspective of the NOLA Department of Public Works

Recently, NolaVie received a very cheerful newsletter from The New Orleans Agenda stating the wondrous accomplishments both the NOLA Department of Public Works and the Sewage and Water Board achieved in 2016. Now that 2017 is upon us, we would like to give thanks and inspire both the DPW and the S&W Board with visuals.

DPW completed the following work in 2016:

1. Filled over 114,876 potholes. We’d love for pothole filling to continue for 2017. There are only about 2 billion more to go.

2. Cleaned over 7,000 drainage catch basins and over 76 miles of drain lines and inspected and assessed the condition of over 82 miles of drain lines. We 100% believe you. Uptowners know that you are ripping up those streets and getting to those drains like nobodies business.

3. Installed over 5,100 new permanent traffic signs and over 1,133 new permanent street name signs. We think this is great, maybe you could get a bit more creative with the street signs. Allow us to offer some inspiration:

4. Repaired over 10,000 streetlight outages (over 99 percent of the city’s streetlights are operational); and Installed over 545 LED streetlights (over 42,000 of the City’s streetlights are now LEDs representing 78 percent of the city’s streetlight system). We love that you are making our streets lit. Now all that we ask is that you don’t forget about the romance.

More than anything, we want to thank all the city workers who make New Orleans our favorite place to be! Keep ripping it up in 2017 (although, maybe not so literally)!
