Nola Live Music Letter

Editor’s Note: There is so much live music in New Orleans, and sometimes it can be rather overwhelming to know what to hear, where to go, or what to do. Writer and music lover Wesley Hodges is giving weekly previews of the live music happening in New Orleans as well as some sneak previews into what is coming up. For a full view of Wesley’s suggestions, check out his facebook page.

Rest In Power Col. Bruce Hampton (1947-2017)

Shocked as I’m sure many of you are today after having seen the news and immediate outpouring of heartfelt tributes from the countless artists who’s lives Colonel Bruce Hampton touched during his 70 years on earth. The surreal way he passed last night at the end of a massive, four show celebrating his 70th birthday at Atlanta’s Fox Theater would be hard to believe as a movie script. Surrounded by those who loved him at the biggest live celebration of his life’s work to date. Undoubtedly today, he music world is saddened to lose such a creative and influential force of nature. But my what a way to go out.

RIP Col. Bruce, you will be missed and toasted countless times from New Orleans stages this week and around the world for ages.

Many of you will be hitting the Fairground for Jazz Fest, but there is musical life outside and after Jazz Fest. Here we go.
