We’ve got your weekend: Rooftops, brass bands, Dim Sum, and more

Wednesday, June 14/Catahoula Hotel (914 Union Street): The Catahoula rooftop has become a mecca for movies, and the summertime is not slowing them down. They are diving into the dark, mysterious, and perfectly weird existence of the film Donnie Darko this Wednesday. Sure, there might be torrential downpours, but that will add to the creepiness. The movie begins at 8:00 PM and make sure to ask about the $3 drink tickets. To check out the full listing of screenings at the Catahoula Hotel, you can check out their event page here.

Wednesday, June 14/Ace Hotel (600 Carondelet Street): Many New Orleanians get to know the Ace Hotel quite well in the summer due to its free rooftop pool. But on Wednesday night, staying indoors will be just as sweet when the Ace puts on a free concert of The Big Easy Brawlers. This band will be blowing brass all night in the Three Keys, and it all begins at 9:00 PM. For more information on the event, you can check out their event page here.

Thursday, June 15/Arrow Cafe (628 N. Rampart): If you haven’t heard, Arrow Cafe is the place for art, shows, coffee, pastries, and pop-ups. This Thursday, they will be having the colorful Midnight Market dumplings at their establishment along with Smokey Bao & vegan doughnuts. This cafe has different events, art shows, and pop-ups every week, so check out their Facebook page to keep up with their happenings. For this Thursday, you can find out the full menu and prices for the Dim Sum here.

Friday, June 16/Julie Neill Designs (3908 Magazine Street): To get you geared up and ready to take in some art for the upcoming White (August 5)and Dirty (August 13) Linen night, you can see the works of William Greiner and John Isiah Walton. The Julie Neill Designs will be exhibiting Mardi Gras portraits portfolio “New Orleans 2017” by Greiner and a selection from “Political Portraits” by Walton. The exhibit opens at 6:00 PM, and it is free and open to the public. For more information, you can check out their event page.

Friday, June 16/City Park (1 Palm Dr.): We are going to get more serious now because in New Orleans it is an average day when you pair the offbeat with the intellectual. Life City is putting on a conference that focuses on how to overcome racism in the workplace this Friday in City Park. This workshop helps people identify concrete steps to leading a diverse team with integrity. Participants will leave with new language, new approaches, and a greater awareness of what it means to productively leverage diverse teams in the workplace. We all want voices from all represented, and this workshop is a step toward that. The workshop runs from 9:00 AM until 4:30 PM, and you can purchase tickets here. You can find out more about the workshop on their event page.
