Book Fest week, audio: ‘I like the part about the alligators,’ book reviews from third graders at Schaumburg Elementary School Part I

Editor’s Note: The New Orleans Book Festival takes place Nov. 11 and 12, with dozens of critically acclaimed local, regional, and national authors, readings, food, music, and an entire section devoted to children’s literature. This week, NolaVie partners with the Book Fest to present a week of education-oriented stories focusing on literature. 

NolaVie headed into the library at Schaumburg Elementary School to read with Miss Martin’s third-grade class. After reading The Adventures of Happy and Big Wanda, by New Orleanian Happy Johnson, discussions focused on what students found exciting and interesting in his book, as well as other books. Good tip for writers: Include more alligators eating things in books. The kids love it!  Check in tomorrow for Part II, when we read and discuss Trombone Shorty’s biography with Miss Martin’s third-grade class.
