All along Tchoupitoulas Street, cargo ships and cranes are familiar sights that define the riverside landscape — familiar, but set apart from the rest of the city. Kicker Kalozdi wants to change that. The New Orleans native is building a three-story home in the Irish Channel made out of shipping containers.
Of course, the build has been far from simple, but Kalozdi has been able to balance the historic district’s strict rules with his goal to remain true to the containers’ original elements. Now with a move-in date within reach, Kalozdi has started to help other people in the community with their own container projects.
Kicker Kalozdi runs a leather and canvas bag company called DamnDog. You can see the shipping container house for yourself on Saturday, November 11 as part of the Weird Homes Tour.
