Outside The Parade
Wednesday, February 7/Community Book Center (2523 Bayou Road): Nothing breaks up the Carnival craziness like words on the page. Now you can join Karen Celestan and Eric Waters for their release of “Freedom’s Dance” – the new book on Second Lines in New Orleans. Authors, essayists and SAPC members will be on hand to sign books. There will be light refreshments served and a pre-event book discount available. The signing will be from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM. For more information, you can check out their event here.
Saturday, February 10/Staple Goods (1340 St. Roch): Staple Goods has a new exhibit opening, and it is “Jack Niven: Footings.” This will be a new cast of cement work, connecting with the theme “footing – a solid, stable, reliable barrier, whether it’s acting as a foundation underpinning, a spiritual basis or a bulwark of resistance.” The work in Footings derives from several sources. It picks up on a thread of creative activity from both Niven’s art world and real world experience. Working with concrete has not only served a utilitarian function for him (income, structure, personal use), it’s conceptualization is significant in concise ways. The opening party on Saturday begins at 6:00 PM, and the exhibit will be up from February 10 until March 4.
Sunday, February 11/Generation Hall (310 Andrew Higgins): We all know about the post-parties, but the organizers of Bacchus Bash 2018 are giving us a premiere pre-party. This indoor/outdoor party showcasing several stages, some of the city’s best local bands and great drink specials. This year’s Bacchus Bash will feature multiple DJs including DJ Wixx and DJ TAF, will also include live music performances from popular acts Mannie, Fresh, Flow Tribe, The TopCats, Category 6 and many others. The block party is free and open to the public, and VIP tickets are available for $100 each and include access to the outdoor grandstand, a premium open bar and a private indoor area with bathrooms. Anyone interested in purchasing VIP tickets should visit TheMetroNOLA.com or GenerationsHall.com. It all begins in the afternoon pre-Bacchus.
