The 7th annual New Orleans Sacred Music Festival will take place Saturday, March 10 at the New Orleans Healing Center, 2372 St. Claude Avenue. It will begin at 9 am with a Peace Walk from St. Roch Park arriving at the Center around 10:30. The festival is free – no tickets, no reservations.
Music speaks to a shared core, the organizers tell us, that expresses the values of searching, celebration and lamentation. Sacred music is powerful. It promotes peace, tolerance, and understanding of diverse cultures. Now, more than ever we need healing and an awakening to the profound connections that run through our diverse cultures and communities.
Performers include Deacon John, Sean Johnson and The Wild Lotus Band, Jewish Cantorial Music, and Hip Hop with Sonny D. They are drawn from all the city’s spiritual communities. Some acts are international. Both ancient and cutting-edge, the festival is fun, lively, and full of magical moments. Where else will you see Tibetan monks and Gospel Divas rocking out to hip-hop and medieval chants?
But the festival is more than music. Come and experience rituals, art and altars, crafts, psychic readers, food, prayers, and workshops.
