Thursday, March 8/New Orleans Photo Alliance (1111 St. Mary): Shotgun Cinema’s Full Aperture is back, and they have the award-winning filmmaker and visual artist Melisa Aller presenting a selection of her Super 8 films, shot and edited in camera without digital intervention. Aller’s work explores gender identity and conceptions of body, with a keen focus on queerness. Her first feature, Las Decisiones Formales (Formal Decisions) was shot chronologically using 22 rolls of film spliced together. The program will include a selection of her award-winning short films as well. The doors open at 7:30 PM with the film starting at 8:00. Tickets are $7 (general) and $6 (NOPA members). For full details, check out the event page here.

Thursday, March 8 and 9/Marigny Opera House (725 St. Ferdinand): Music and movies are coming together again at the Marigny Opera House. Local film and scoring collective, Asphalt Serenade, will live edit and score the rarely seen 1924 silent film masterpiece Greed by director Erich Von Stroheim at the Marigny Opera House. The film “Greed” is based on “McTeague”, a vibrant money-as-the-root-of-all-evil novel by Frank Norris and originally published in 1899. The six-piece orchestra will feature Peter Bowling, Kim Hebert, Jason Jurzak, Andrew McClean, Xandra Wong and Carlos Grasso, who will all perform his original score. The film is at 7:30, tickets cost $20 (general) and $10 (students and seniors). Check out Marigny Opera House’s website for full details and tickets.

Saturday, March 10/Staple Goods (1340 St. Roch): Staple Goods has the opening of Jesse Ray Guillory: First Initiation this Saturday. In “First Initiation”, visual artist Jesse Ray Guillory examines the spiritual functions of the camera through photo based installations. Using human hair, light projections and self portraiture, Guillory applies the ritualistic properties of initiation to investigate the intersectional space between privilege and marginalization. The opening begins at 6:00 PM, and the exhibit will be on display until April 8. Check out Staple Good’s website for full details.
