We’ve got your weekend: Hop into the Easter weekend

Wednesday, March 28/Jefferson Parish Eastbank Regional Library (4747 West Napoleon Avenue): Do you feel like your pre-Easter weekend needs a bit more drama. Well, just in time for Easter and Passover, Moscow Nights will present a stage reading of its newest theatrical production based on Mikhail A. Bulgakov’s novel “The Master and Margarita.” The “Master” in the novel is a writer, and he is working on a manuscript about Pontius Pilate. Inspired by the account of Pilate in the novel, Natasha Ramer created the script for a play entitled, 24 Hours in the Life of Pontius Pilate. It all begins at 7:00 PM. 

Wednesday, March 28-April 1/Marquette Theatre, Loyola University (6363 St. Charles Avenue):We love when theaters are brilliant and connect festivals and writers and plays and performances. In other words, thank you Southern Rep Theater. You may be asking, what exactly is Southern Rep Theater doing? Well, they are putting on A Tennessee Williams double bill– a pair of short plays offered in conjunction with the Tennessee Williams / New Orleans Literary Festival. Which plays? Glad you asked. And Tell Sad Story of the Death of Queens,  posthumously published, is paired with The Two-Character Play, one of Williams’ late works. The shows begin at 7:30 PM. Thursday, March 29/Marigny Opera House (725 St. Ferdinand Street): The walls of the Marigny Opera House will be filled with local sounds on Thursday night. Albinas Prizgintas will perform local composer Jeff Pagano’s new Purism compositions for Solo Piano. The concert begins at 7:00 PM, there is a suggested donation of $20, and you can find out details here. 

Saturday, March 31/Courtyard Brewery (1020 Erato Street): Eggs are not just for children, and Whole Village Art Therapy is proving that with their “Grown-up Easter Egg Hunt.” This hunt has coupons for great prizes hidden in the eggs, including free beer. Your donation of $10 or more will support Whole Village Art Therapy, Inc., a non-profit that provides art therapy and mental health services in New Orleans schools and in the community. Not only does Whole Village Art Therapy provide free and sliding scale art therapy to help clients through a variety of difficult issues, but they also provide free public events that offer much needed preventative care and community building. Saturday, March 31/Superdome (1500 Sugar Bowl Drive): The runners are hitting the streets! On Saturday, thousands of runners will seek to break 10k records while thousands more will take in the scenic sights and sounds of New Orleans as they walk and run the Crescent City Classic race. This year’s running of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic (CCC) begins at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome at 8:00 AM and marks the 6.2-mile race’s 40th anniversary. Event organizers expect more than 25,000 participants to cross the finish line in front of the New Orleans Museum of Art in historic City Park, and you can come out to run, to support, or to join in the after party at City Park, which will include drinks, food and live music. Sunday, April 1/The Official Gay Easter Parade (New Orleans Streets): If you feel like hitting the streets for Easter then the Official Gay Easter Parade, which showcases the fashion and creativity of the LGBTQ community dressed in Easter and summer suits, tuxedos, and dresses with festive Easter hats. The parade begins at 4:30 PM and will end around 7:30 PM. For full details and a route, you can check out their event page here. 

Sunday, April 1/The Roosevelt New Orleans (130 Roosevelt Way): If you are looking to celebrate Easter with food, food, food, then head to the Roosevelt. They will be celebrating Easter with more than 100 culinary dishes and live entertainment at the hotel’s Easter Brunch Buffet in the Waldorf Astoria Ballroom. Seating will be available from 10:00 AM until 1:30 PM, and the menu is expansive. We are talking everything from a raw bar to lovely Charcuterie and Cheese Selections.
