Bring your own: “Why Rihanna’s Great” by Francesca McKenzie

Editor’s Note: Bring Your Own is a nomadic storytelling series that takes place in living rooms, backyards and other intimate spaces within the community. Each month, seven storytellers have 7 minutes to respond to a theme. BYO airs on “All Things New Orleans” and is a biweekly podcast on WWNO.org.

On January 9th, 2013, The Community Book Center held Bring Your Own and New Orleans-based theater maker and educator Francesca McKenzie tells of her time working at the Edible School Yard. She explains how her pop-icon obsession led to a connection she never imagined it would. This story was told under the theme “Emergency Exit.”
