Gratitude       6/2/2020
 
 
Climate change
The pandemic 
Economic collapse 
Civil war
 
Any one could be 
The ruin of us
 
There may be no way
To avoid the catastrophes
They portend. 
 
Perhaps extinction is our fate
And one day another race 
Will argue over its cause,
Just as we speculate over 
The demise of the dinosaurs.  
 
If so, I pray that gratitude 
Will outweigh my horror & grief
 
Because I have never felt 
More alive than at the edge
Of such peril.
