March 13, 2020 was the last time live music took the stage at one of the city’s most iconic venues, Tipitina’s. Named after one of Professor Longhair’s tunes, Tipinta’s has been a staple in the city since 1977. Over the years, bands like Phish, Jane’s Addiction, Nine Inch Nails, The Replacements, Soundgarden, Fugazi, BB King, Fats Domino, and Sonic Youth have all graced the legendary stage.
Fast forward to 2020 and another great year of music was upon us, that is, until March reared its ugly head and everything came to a grinding halt. Covid-19 completely destroyed the tourism industry and live music in the city almost disappeared.
Bands have made their way to the internet to find new ways of making revenue, but let out in the process has been the actual venues those bands use to play.
Tipitina’s in a partnership with Krystal Hot Sauce and nugs.net have launched Tipitinas.TV. Season one started on August 15 with a performance by the club’s owners, Galactic and will conclude on September 19 with The Radiators.
