Want to learn how to open a restaurant in New Orleans? Nick Vivion and Kevin Farrell can show you how.
The co-owners of Booty’s Street Food, which is scheduled to open this Friday evening, have been documenting their adventures as they transform this old Bywater building into a contemporary space with walls made of reclaimed wood, ceilings of tin and a bar of steel. On their blog, which features a series of photos and videos, Nick and Kevin take you through the demolition and construction of this space and the various obstacles they run into along the way.
Grab some popcorn as Nick and Kevin also uncover some of the history of the old building, which has stood in the Bywater for over 150 years. In one video chapter, they discover the charred remnants of a fire that occurred back in 1901 during one of the building’s past lives as a pharmacy.
What’s even more fascinating is what happens when they try to dig up some buried “booty” of their own. Some of what they find dates back to 1906, and became an inspiration to the owners as they designed the space. Check it out.
Booty’s will serve street food from around the world and will be open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
