We got your weekend: Nature Walks, Jazz History, Healing Films

City Park

THURSDAY / When the sun goes down: The weather is heating up, so go out when the sun goes down. Go to City Park‘s Pavilion of Two Sisters for Thursdays at Twilight to enjoy live music, mint juleps, and a cool breeze at the sun sinks over the oaks. The event is 5-8 PM with the performance starting at 6. Take a break from your typical happy hour and start your weekend with some jazz al fresco.

FRIDAY / Jazz it up: This weekend, for an event that is both steeped in tradition and uniquely one of a kind, join the Little Gem Saloon, Clarinet Road, and Rock ‘n’ Nola Musical Heritage Tours this Saturday. The event starts at 3:30 PM with the “Roots of Jazz” walking tour, including a private exhibit at the Historic New Orleans Collection, and progresses to a three-course meal at the Little Gem Saloon and a concert performed by Evan Christopher and Clarinet Road. Eat, drink, learn, and listen to “The Sounds of Storyville.”

SATURDAY / I fell asleep beneath the flowers: Spring has certainly sprung here in New Orleans. This weekend, return to nature with wetland walks. You have two opportunities to see the flowers in bloom, either at City Park with the Louisiana Iris Walk at City Park at 9 AM, followed by coffee at Morning Call, or at the Jean Lafitte National Park Spring Wildflower walk at 10:30. Just make sure to bring sunscreen (and you’ll want to take your coffee iced).

SUNDAY / What the doctor ordered: If you’re looking for something a little more air-conditioned after the heat of French Quarter Fest, head to Buffa’s Lounge Sunday evening at 8 PM for NOLAsynchroniCITY, a weekly series featuring films about New Orleans and Louisiana heritage. This week’s movie is “Good for What Ails You,” and reveals healing secrets of Cajuns, Creoles, and Bayou Indians. The series is free and open to the public, and the filmmakers are available for questions between showings.
