Thursday / Laugh a little : Holidays are stressful. Day-after-Christmas shopping can be even more stressful. Unwind and work in some laughs at the Howlin’ Wolf‘s Comedy Gumbo, an open mic night consisting of both new and seasoned comedians. The show starts at 8:30 PM; it is free and open to the public.
Friday / Dinner and a zoovie : Experiencing the after-Christmas blues? Gather your blankets, lawn chairs, thermoses of hot cocoa and coffee and head to Audubon Zoo for ZOO-vie night for a screening Elf (the 2002 Christmas comedy, starring Will Farrell) . Food trucks NOLA Girl and Guideaux’s will be selling food, and the Zoo’s education department will be selling hot chocolate and candy. Doors open at 6 PM, the film starts at 6:30. Tickets are $5 per person.
Friday – Saturday / Walk it off : For two days, Friends of the Cabildo and The Historic New Orleans Collection will bring you Creole Christmas, a special holiday tour throgh the Quarter. The self-guided walking tour will take guests through five historic New Orleans homes: the Gallier House, 1850 House, Spring Fiesta house, HNOC’s Williams Residence and Beauregard – Keyes house, each adorned with festive tinsel. Tours will be offered from 10 AM to 4 PM, with ticket sales closing at 3 PM. Tickets are $25; $20 for FOTC members; $15 for students; and free for children under 12. Purcahse tickets in advance or at the 1850 House.
Sunday / Throwback… Sunday : There’s nothing like spending an entire evening glued to your couch, watching 80s and 90s reruns in your official Sunday uniform (pjs). You’ll have to mobilize from your sofa to a chair for this theatrical throwback, but it’ll eb worth it. Mid City Theatre is paying tribute to 80s/90s cult classic Golden Girls by performing a sing-along rendition of three episodes from the series. Doors open at 5:45; the show starts 6 PM. The performance will run Monday and Tuesday (both at 8 PM), as well. Tickets are $30 ($40 for New Year’s Eve — if you want to rbing in 2014 with Bea, Betty, Rue, and Estelle). Friday’s and Saturday’s shows have already sold out, so hurry up, and grab tickets while you still can.
