The Orpheum Theater’s illustrious past has involved both music and cinema, so it’s appropriate that one of the New Orleans Film Festival’s offerings at the newly restored theater is about the making of a number-one album.
The Reflektor Tapes, directed by Kahlil Joseph, charts Arcade Fire’s creative journey as they produce their hit album, Reflektor. It follows the band to Jamaica, where they lay the foundation for the album; to Montreal where they record it; to Haiti on the first night of Carnival, where they perform an impromptu gig – all before their shows before capacity crowds in Los Angeles and London.
The film blends never-before-seen personal interviews and moments captured by the band to dazzling effect and features 15 minutes of exclusive, unseen footage, filmed only for cinema audiences.
The Reflecktor Tapes screens Saturday, October 17 at the Orpheum at 9:15 p.m. Following the screening, there will be an after party at the old Mardi Gras World on the west bank, DJ’d by Arcade Fire’s Win Butler (A party bus will provide transportation.)
