Lord Huron and the Cardinal Sons take two

The last time Lord Huron played New Orleans was back in May of 2015 at the Civic Theater. They were in the midst of their Strange Trails tour and local trio brother band Cardinal Sons were somewhat surprised and overjoyed to be opening. It’s always nice to get that opening slot for a national tour, and the guys were a great choice to handle the duty.

Now, flash forward to June of this year and the two were playing again on the same night but at different venues this time. Lord Huron played the House of while the Sons played a free show at Tipitina’s. The bands seem to be on different paths of sorts as Lord Huron is still riding the Strange Trails path and the Cardinal Sons are in the middle of recording new material, which, when played live is giving the band another dimension.

Lord Huron’s House of Blues set was almost a carbon copy of the Civic set — fifteen songs for both shows and less than three different tracks. While the Sons’s Civic set was all in the Tipitina’s set; the Tipitina’s show was a headliner, and they played a few more tracks including debuting a new song for the first time. “Magnolia” and “New Jack” are among the new tracks the will end up on the guys new CD and have a sound quite different than material released previously. I look forward to the final product.
