Wednesday, June 7/Art Klub (1941 Arts Street): Most of us have the same complaint when it comes to not working on our creative projects–we don’t have enough time. It seems that we have less time to get into the zone and stay in the zone where creative endeavors pour out of us, but Art Klub is going to try to bring you to that state whenever you want. They are hosting a six-week intensive workshop for artists and explorers of self based on the techniques of Mary Overly’s “6 Viewpoints” and Joan Evan’s Techniques to re-find center and refine character development while composing new works of performance. It all begins this Wednesday and continues through the six-week series. The time is from 6:00-8:30 PM, and you can find out pricing and details here.

Thursday, June 8/Propeller Incubator (4035 Washington Ave): Propeller Incubator and Caravan Cinema NOLA have teamed up to screen Ava DuVerny’s multi-award winning documentary 13th. The film examines the racial inequity of America’s prison system. A brief, informal discussion will be held afterwards, forming part of Propeller’s Racial Equity awareness drive. Catering will be provided by Afrodisiac’s Jamaican/Creole food truck and drinks by Roulaison rum distillery. This screening is free, open to the public, and begins at 5:30 PM. For more information, you can check out the event here.

Thursday, June 8/Mid-City Branch Library (4140 Canal Street): John P. Klingman, Favrot Professor at the Tulane School of Architecture, will present an overview of Mid-Century Modern architecture. New Orleans’ Mid-Century Modern landmarks will be explored inside of one of the most important buildings left in New Orleans — the Automotive Life Insurance Building, now the Mid-City Branch Library. This talk is free, open to the public, and begins at 6:00 PM. Seating is limited and first-come, first-served, with additional standing room, so you might want to arrive early. For more information about the event, you can check out the details here.

Friday, June 9/BJs Bywater (4301 Burgundy): You know him when he is coming down the street. There is a small toy dedicated in his honor, and it is his birthday bash this Friday. We are talking about Mr. Okra. BJs is throwing him a birthday party, and you are invited. There will be food (out at 6:00 PM), fun (all night long), and cake (as long as it lasts) to celebrate Mr. Okra. There will also be music by the Morning 40 Federation at 8:00 PM. There’s a $10 cover at the door, and all the proceeds go to Mr. Okra himself!

Saturday, June 10/Saturn Bar (3067 St. Claude): The college kids have left for the hot summer, which means one thing–a less crowded Mod Night at Saturn Bar. You can go and shake your body in a way that would be debacherous in the 50s but it just right in today’s world when you are dancing to 50s music. Oh, the confusion! Mod Night will begin at 10:00 PM, there’s no cover charge, and you can get more details about DJs for the night here.

Sunday, June 11/Tigermen Den (3113 Royal Street): It is the last cajun dance of the season for Tigermen, so it is time to put on your dusty shoes and partner dance with a stranger. As usual, they will have live music, dancing, food, cold drinks, coffee, and stomping feet. Don’t worry if you’ve never cajun danced before because there is a free dance lesson at 1:00 PM for beginners. The full dancing and brunch begins at 11:00 AM and ends around 3:00 PM. It’s usually $10 to get in, and you can find out more details here.
