Editor’s Note: All this talk about big data and little data make us here at NolaVie want to know about WHO DATA. What’s “Who Data,” you ask? It’s photos of openings, exhibits, galas, parties, and everythings that happen around New Orleans.
On Saturday, January 19, New Orleans’ Southern Rep Theatre officially moved into its permanent home located in the former St. Rose de Lima church at 2541 Bayou Road, New Orleans. The theatre invited the public to their Inaugural Ball where the space was activated with everything that celebrates the great city of New Orleans and the vibrancy of Southern Rep.
As attendees toured the venue, live entertainment, visual art, installations, food, music, cocktails and more took place. The evening began with an opening ceremony with remarks from Southern Rep Producing Artistic Director Aimée Hayes, Deputy Director of Louisiana Office of Cultural Development Kristin Sanders and Jonathan Leit and Mike Grote of Alembic Community Development.
The theatre was then blessed by Janet “Sula” Evans and Andaiye Alimayu of Zion Trinity. Following the blessing and official ringing of the Tower Bell, the theatre was activated by entertainers including, Mondays are a Drag performers Reba Douglas, Latonia & Malaysia Black, upcoming Southern Rep production Flowers for Hallie playwright and star Troi Bechet, aerial circus cabaret entertainer Liza Rose, Whitney Mixon & Clint Johnson, Ramshackle Revival, Dr. Brice Miller and the New Orleans Music Company, and DJ Lay. A Care for Creatives “Paint with Passion” activation was guided by Sarah Zoghbi, Myesha Francis & Nikki Mingledorff and catering was by Bogan’s King Que.
