The Home Run Hitter
by: Reece Burka
Little league championship
Captain of the team
Cleanup hitter
Bases loaded
Total focus
It was him or me…
He had the heater
I had a dream
A dream nurtured
In the crucible of boyhood
I saw my chance
I took the swing
Hitting the sweet spot
I got it all
Watching the arc
Reaching its zenith
Following its descent
Beyond the grasp
Of an outstretched glove
I rounded the bases
And rode the glory
To the pinnacle of youth
Knowing no limits
I began my descent
Into the realities
Of life as it’s lived
Within the strictures of time
